access. This is not the first time recently
that this method has been used to enter
properties. Can we ask that when you secure
your doors, that the key is removed from the

We are re-issuing a warning regarding a
scam that was common earlier this year that
has happened again this week.

details over the phone to a man who said he
was from BT Customer Services and wanted
immediate payment of an outstanding phone
bill or the phone line would be cut off. BT
have confirmed they do not collect monies by
this method.
The bank card details were then used
fraudulently.

| Personal Message From
Martin Carson the community officer for the
Cowling ward: 5th July 2007 |
Hello, My name is Martin CARSON and I am
the community officer for the Cowling ward.
I have been a police officer for 4 and a
half years, and have spent the past 20
months at Crosshills. Prior to that I worked
at Scarborough.
My role involves working very closely with
the Neighbourhood watch schemes in the
village.
When I first met Ray and Mark I was
impressed with the levels of enthusiasm and
commitment both have for the Millcroft
Neighbourhood watch scheme (MCNW).
It is rare to see such a professional scheme
and as such the people on the croft are
extremely lucky.
There are a lot of people who are sceptical
about these type of schemes. They are of
great benefit to the local community. There
are a number of occasions where information
provided directly from the scheme have led
to the arrest and conviction of offenders.
It also provides a good community spirit
where everyone looks out for
everybody else.
Both Ray and Mark have my personal mobile
number. I am happy for them to contact me at
any time with any problems or issues you may
have. I would urge you to go to Ray or Mark
with any issues, however trivial. I need to
know what is going on in the area. Cowling
is a great place to live, with a low crime
rate. It will only stay like this through
schemes like MCNW.
Thank you |

Round: 16th April 2007 |
At 8p.m. on Sunday evening a lady in
Cowper Street, Skipton answered her front
door to find a 13yr old boy asking if she
had seen his lost dog.
Unknown to the lady at the time was that his
two friends had gone to the back of the
house where they were disturbed by a
neighbour.
Although no offences were committed we
consider their behaviour was suspicious and
are advising all neighbourhood watch members
to be on their guard in case of distraction
burglaries.
All three boys were white and aged about
13yrs. The main boy was described as tanned,
with short dark hair and wearing a red
football top.
We would also like to remind you now the
warmer weather is here to remember to make
sure your house is secure. Please don't make
it easy for a sneak-in burglar by leaving
doors and windows open. |

VISA card fraud. This has been reported
again and BT confirm that they are
investigating the problem.
A caller rings and demands credit card
payment owed to BT (in both cases around
£14.30 ) or the householder will be cut off.
In one case this was actually done as proof.
The householder then gives credit card
details to clear the debt and these details
are then used for fraudulent transactions.
Should you receive such a call, please
report it to the police. Please do not pay,
and if you get cut off contact BT with
another phone and let them know what has
happened. |
